Why this site exists
Two things go wrong when you research this waterfall. The first is the ranking: most pages still repeat that Gocta is the third highest waterfall in the world, a claim from a 2006 press conference that waterfall databases have disputed ever since. The second is the money. The listings show a price in dollars and say nothing about the cash you still need in the village — the entrance ticket, the horse, and on one of the three tours, your own lunch.
Neither problem is a secret. The figures are in the operators' own small print, in the community ticket offices' pricing and in recent visitor reports. Putting them next to the price is the entire job of this site.
Where the facts come from
Tour prices, durations, inclusions, guide languages, age limits and cancellation terms are read off each operator's own listing on the date shown on the page, in US dollars. Every tour page carries the same fields in the same order. Tour listings checked: August 2026.
Trail distances, elevation gain and walking times are cross-checked against mapped trail data and recent first-hand hiking reports rather than operator marketing. Entrance fees are quoted as a range because two separate community associations — Cocachimba and San Pablo — set them independently and adjust them without notice. Rainfall and temperature figures come from ten-year climate records for Chachapoyas, 2015 to 2024, not from a brochure.
What we do not do
We do not sell tours, take payments, hold bookings or act as an agent for any operator or platform. We have never guided anyone to this waterfall and do not write as though we have.
We also do not invent traveller quotes. All three listings compared here are new and carry no reviews at all, so this site says that plainly instead of manufacturing a consensus that does not exist.
